Anxiety involves a hyper-focus on perceived problems (which may be real), a distraction of attention from day-to-day functions, and a negative feedback cycle between psychological preoccupation and body discomfort. Subjective anxiety and somatic tension reinforce each other. In a relaxed state these psychological and body components are separated, which facilitates healing (Spiegel, 2013).
